ARTisSPECTRUM, The Chelsea Perspective, Vol.20 November 2008
Bold gesture, powerful color, and sweeping movement characterize the dynamic abstract expressionist paintings of Laurie Vaughn. By synthesizing a broad range of global influences from the American Abstract Expressionist Action Painters, to the CoBrA Art Movement, Zen Calligraphy, and 19th century African textiles, Vaughn creates her own distinct aesthetic of Afro Expressionism, which reflects not only her cultural heritage and personal history, but her comprehensive art historical understanding and education. Her strong, gestural brushstrokes and aggressive color pallet evidence the influence of Robert Motherwell and Willem de Kooning
While Vaughn first captures the viewers attention with the sheer magnetic force of her imagery, her thematic content, thoroughly rooted in the pertinent issues facing contemporary society, makes her work intriguing and thought provoking.

IMPACT ARTIST REVIEW RELEASE
Laurie Vaughn, IMPACT ARTIST Makes Headlines With Art Show in Ft. Lauderdale
2009-06-12
Laurie Vaughn brought her Artwork to the Streets, literally. Laurie is a spectacular Artist and the South Florida Philharmonic Orchestra is proud that she is one of our IMPACT ARTISTS, she has taken her position with the Orchestra as a Premier Star creating her Masterpieces during performances of Vivaldi and Schubert and glorifying the Masters with her own personal inflection of that Music with her stylized technique. Now, with New Times believing in her Art, Laurie was chosen by New Times Co-ordinator Whitney Laws to be the featured Painter at the first of their BLOCK PARTY SHOWS at Himmarshee and 2nd Street in downtown Fort Lauderdale. This fantastic opportunity gave the large crowds of people that attended a rare glimpse in to the world of an Artist that is creating a Masterpiece before their very eyes, THE IMPACT ARTIST. Laurie also joined me on the set of the recent taping of "Sugar Baibies"starring Beau Beasley from Big Brother. The South Florida Philharmonic Orchestra under International and US National Conductor Donald Covert, 50 World Class Musicians are very proud of the 30 World Class Artists that we are associated with and thank New Times and ARTSERVE for the opportunity to work with them on this fantastic project, we see much success in bringing Art to the Strrets of Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Himmarshee group and Bacardi know how to throw a BLOCK PARTY. They can count on both the American Catastrophic Illness Organization and the South Florida Philharmonic Orchestra (the Orchestra has been invited to perform so keep your eyes open for that) to help in any way that we can.

A great hole in the experience we call art fills up with the work of Laurie Vaughn. In all times and along with all ages, artists disappear (sometimes by their hand, sometimes through accident) as they just approach the top of their powers, right as they can see a light break across the hard-edged crest. I can think of their names as I'm sure can you.
Their power, their energy to create that which comes at us in a startled flash, has been caught by this one Laurie Vaughn. Her color and texture form a planed mystery released only by her will to create. Step with us into what surely once could have been......and now has become the art of Laurie Vaughn.
